I wholeheartedly agree. It irritates me so much to see retailers selling t-shirt saying ACDC, Nirvana or Raymond’s to 14 year old who have never heard of the bands before and don’t listen to rock music. Don’t buy the t-shirt unless you’re a fan . It’s a lifestyle not a style or “look”

As an original 90’s girl, pairing a cute dress with my doc Martin’s and a denim jacket was an easy and effective date night option. I always went with a high pony tail and big hoop earrings. I love that this is still in fashion. Definitely a (newer) classic look.

For all my hard rock-people out there on the internets, who maybe seek something a little (really just a little) more polished, think of a button down shirt – white, a pastel or chambray are excellent fits. You can still style them edgy af, but can also combine it with something that doesn´t get you kicked out from you grandma`s birthday party.

Sooner or later, those concert tees will come – and they multiply over time.
When it comes to make up, I highly recommend finding something that is flattering for you. There are so many vastly different make-up styles that go with the rock style, there is sure as hell something for everybody. No one has to wear the black eyeliner, if they find it´s not the right thing for them.

Wearing what is nowadays called “edgy style” for the last 25+ years, I can tell you that pairing floral dresses with denim, leather, fishnet and other typical, more rock-ish, items, is a bow to the 90´s. Not everything was plaid back in those days. I found a floral maxi dress in black at a thrift store this summer an I love pairing it with the chunky Dr. Martens sandals wich are quite trendy right now. I add a floppy hat and round sunglasses and that black leather backpack my mom bought in the 80´s. For autum, all sorts of black cardigans and/or biker jackets (and maybe some warm tights) make a compfy AND stylish combo. Though not every floral dress might be the right fit for the style, especially those from the 90´s (2nd half) really add something to the overall aesthetic. But within the wide range of the edgy style, there is something for everybody, and while I think a leather jacket is a must-have, a flower dress sure is not.

…AND I just noticed the comments are old, so OP definitely won’t read this, but maybe another pear-shaped rocker girl will come across this and find it helpful ^_^’

I’m also quite short, pear-shaped and not very skinny! I also have a face that reads “young&girly”, so overall I don’t think this style is for me, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for edgier clothing so I decide I don’t care 🙂
In those instances I usually wear black skinny jeans with a medium/high waist (skinny jeans may not be the most flattering on my body, but the black helps and hips are nothing to be ashamed of), black shoes that aren’t completely flat (I can’t wear heels but I have a pair of sneakers with a higher sole that helps with my fussy feet) and a graphic t-shirt that isn’t too tight but not too baggy either. I either choose a choose a t-shirt that is a bit short or tuck it in my jeans, as I find covering my hips just makes them look wider. This probably works well with a leather or denim jacket, especially if cropped, but I find them too constricting so I stick with my flannel shirt even though it’s not particularly flattering 😛
You can also wear a skater dress (even floral if the background is dark) and add a leather jacket.
Accessories also help a lot.

I also need some matching makeup as well. Cool article!
